At the beginning of the 18th century, numerous collections of pieces for solo recorder were printed in England. Only a few copies have survived, however, and even these are very rare. The aim of these collections was both to instruct and to entertain the player. As they include fingering charts, explanations of rhythmical values and ornaments and other directions, the little volumes quite justifiably bear the title 'The Flute Master'. The were was a close link between playing and learning.

This collection of 37 assorted tunes was written to instruct and to entertain the player. The melodies have their origins in a variety of sources - folk music, dance music, ballet and opera. Contents:
