Many Yiddish songs, before they became popular, had their origin in Yiddish theatre and cabaret which flourished around the turn of the century in Eastern Europe and on the American East Coast. Some songs became so popular that they were adopted by other ethnic groups and were often passed on as American (as with 'Dona Dona') or even Chinese folklore (in the case of 'Erev Shel Shoshanim')

Arrangements of the three Yiddish songs were made for the present edition: 'Di grine Kuzine" and were very popular among Jewish immigrants in Northern America, 'Rezele was composed by the Cracow popular poet Mordechai Gebirtig. 'Dreydl' is a version of a Yiddish children's song which was sung mainly during Hanukkah time, when children were traditionally given presents.

Arranger Philipp Tenta lives as a freelance artist and teacher in Taiwan and Austria. In many of his compositions he gets to grips with traditional music cultures as well as the modern sound possibilities of the recorder. A large part of his music creations are dedicated to young musicians and children. Several of his educational works have appeared in Taiwan in recent years.
