Directed by Zana Clarke, Batalla Famossa is a recorder ensemble of young musicians from Armidale NSW who perform a range of brilliant music with tremendous energy and vitality.

In The Great Emu War, Batalla Famossa display their talents with works by three Australian composers. From the rich tonality of Glyn Marillier's _And everyone sang_ to the way out sounds of Benjamin Thorn's _Is there enough room?_ or the piquancy of Lance Eccles' _Ukrainian Folksongs_, Batalla Famossa demonstrates great versatility, skill and musicality. A work familiar to many is Marillier's Lorne Concerto written for sopranino recorder and recorder orchestra.

Thorn's _Purple Pavans_ Perhaps is another track featuring a solo instrument, this time the bass recorder. The highly energetic title track, _The Great Emu War_ by Thorn, stands in contrast to the beautiful arrangements by Eccles of Chinese and Korean Folksongs. The recording concludes with the full-textured sound of _Marillier's Christmas Canzona._

This is a CD for anyone interested in recorders, Australian music, or simply great music making!
