More info

Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.

Olivewood is hard, heavy and among recorder woods is third only to Grenadilla and Ebony in weight/hardness. It has a  fine uniform texture. The olivewood treble is extremely responsive, able to play the fastest passages with ease. A true solo instrument with a clear powerful sound that projects very well.

Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder – consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
