More info

Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.

Ebony is one of the heaviest recorder woods, very hard with a fine uniform texture. The ebony treble is extremely responsive, able to play the fastest passages with ease. A true solo instrument with a clear powerful sound that projects very well

Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder – consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
