Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.
Maple is one of the lighter recorder woods, similar in density and hardness to pearwood. It has a fine uniform texture and a natural lustre. The sound is warm and dark, capable of great subtlety in the shaping of notes and phrases.
Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder – consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
All instruments dispatched by Orpheus Music are automatically insured for full value at no extra cost to the customer.
