Francesco Durante (31 March 1684 – 30 September 1755) was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan School. Best known for his church music, he was also an important teacher, instructing Niccolo Jommelli, Giovanni Paisiello, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Niccolo Piccinni and Leonardo Vinci among others.

A lesser-known, almost exact contemporary of Bach, Dornel, Handel and D. Scarlatti, Francesco Durante is known chiefly as a teacher. He studied at the Conservatorio dei Poveri di Gesu Cristo in Naples & later at the Conservatorio di San Onofrio under A. Scarlatti. Working for a time in Rome and later in Saxony, most of his life was spent in his native Naples.
