Composer Arnold Cooke was born in Gomersal, Yorkshire, in 1906. After distinguished war service in the Royal navy, Cooke returned to Yorkshire to compose but in 1947 he was appointed to the staff of Trinity College of Music, London where he taught composition until his retirement in 1978. He died on August 13th, 2005. 

The Three Flower Songs were written in 1987 and first performed on 3rd August that year.
