Composer Anthony Gilbert writes: 'These eight tours de force' were written over a period of some thirteen years for that tower of strength in the recorder world, John Turner They are intended as gifts for him (fairing is my name for a piece written to send somebody away happy), and in all but one case they are intended to celebrate birthdays. They may be played in any order, or separately or not at all'.
