Viktor Fortin was born on 14th May 1936 in Fohnsdorf (Steiermark). He studied music at the music academy in Graz and holds a degree as piano, bassoon and recorder teacher. He completed his teaching degree with the subjects Music & german and then worked for several gymnasiums in the Steiermark. In 1979 he was appointed professor for recorder at the music academy of Graz and additionally lectured in the musical theory pf form and analysis. In 1985 he completed his PhD at the university of Vienna in musicology and German studies. He was given the emeritus status in 2004.
