*Contemporary Piece.* Employs some avant-garde techniques. Includes performance notes and composer biography.

  • Piano e dolce , that attributes both of the flauto dolce andthe pianoforte, could serve as a subtitle for this piece. In particular the pianist must always adapt to the volume of the flute, which means that-although not stated-for long sections volume level stays in the piano (or pianissimo) range.
  • Formally, the piece is structured into the baroque form of the recitativo (part A) and arioso (B-L) which is framed by a further 'Recitativo accompagnato' (M-P). This baroque structure also accords with the ground bass of the arioso, which appears ten times ostinato.
  • Composer Matthias Maute was born in 1963. He studied recorderat the Music Academies of Freiburg and Utrecht. As from 1984 he began publishing compositions of his own. In 1990 he was awarded first prize at the 'Musica Antiqua Competition' in Bruges, Belgium. He is a very well known soloist and member of various ensembles. He has been involved in many radio and CD recordings. He is a professor at McGill University and guest professor at Universite de Montreal.
