This sonata, by baroque Moravian composer Godfrey Finger, is one of four recorder sonatas he wrote. Sonata No. 2 is not only recognised as Finger's finest sonata, but also one of the greatest ever written for the instrument - perhaps because of the remarkable power and grandeur not commonly associated with recorder music. The Times, in 1969, commented that it had "a surprising warmth and intensity".
