  • OMP020 Ross Edwards Ulpirra

Ulpirra is a jazzy solo for descant recorder by Ross Edwards called Ulpirra.  The catalogue grades it difficult, probably on account of its lively pave, ever-changing time-signatures (only four different ones) and frequent acciaccaturas, not always close to the notes they grace.  But there are no torturing dynamic demands - just the mark 'F' at the start, and no modern techniques to contend with.  The tempo word is 'Joyfully' and the piece is just that - a joyful jazzy romp lasting about a minute and a half.  The music is neatly constructed, the crisp, pithy phrases uniting to form a jubilant flurry of excitement.
