Composer Peter Aviss was born in Croydon in 1950. His compositions encompass many genres and include a large scale dramatic cantata, a harp concertino, a recorder sonata as ell as other choral, instrumental and educational works.

The title Fantasia Concertante suggests both the concerto nature of the work and its nature as a fantasia, this being the Italian word for s 'fancy', being both free form and improvisatory in nature.  The English fancies or fantasias were single movement works often for string chamber groups.
