More info

Frangipani Walk was written in Auckland, with the smells of a tropical village walk in mind.

Back to Ubud continues this tropical theme, but is based upon the hills of Ubud Bali. Both pieces derive their Asian feel from the use of pentatonic scales.

Ros Bandt - Frangipani Walk and Back to Ubud - Recorder in F - Orpheus Music OMP312

The music of Ros Bandt, the Australian composer and recorder player, is new to me. These two pieces are very interesting, written in a free style with the music evoking their titles. The first is a 'meander down lanes with frangipani plants on either side;, whilst the second recalls the hills of Ubud Bali. Both have an Asian feel derived from their use of pentatonic scales. They are not technically difficult and are free flowing, with Back to Ubud being written without bar lines, for players who want something a little different. Reviewed by Janice Ormerod.
